About ONTERM

Welcome to ONTERM, a bilingual knowledge-based Web site where you can find Ontario government terminology and information. This site is developed and maintained by the Government Translation Service, Ministry of Government Services.

  • ONTERM contains over 23,000 entries in two databases, OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT NAMES and GENERIC NAMES, which can be searched simultaneously using the query box or index. For names not found in ONTERM, use our online terminology request form.

  • ONTERM provides bilingual reference lists (ministers, ministries, Web site terminology, government acronyms, etc.) which contain frequently requested information pertaining to the Ontario government.

  • ONTERM provides access to Ontario Glossaries such as the Bilingual Lexicon of Legislative Terms, the Ministry of Education/Ministry of Training,Colleges and Universities English-French Glossary, the Emergency Management Ontario English-French Glossary and French-language style guides and addressing guidelines.

  • ONTERM provides access to GeoNames Ontario, Ontario's geographic names database.

Should you need to verify an official Ontario government name or obtain one that is not yet on the ONTERM site, please call the Terminology Hotline of the Government Translation Service at 416 327-2723 or fax us at 416 327-5541 or use our online terminology request form. We suggest that users of the ONTERM site verify official government names wherever their use may have any legal implications.
